Motorists call for improvement in standards of Roy Toll gate along Masvingo-Mutare Highway .BY TATENDA CHIKARA

Motorists in Masvingo are urging the government to improve standards of Masvingo-Mutare highway tollgate near Roy business centre amid concerns that the country could be losing revenue as the toll gate is not computerized. A motorist who spoke to Hevoi FM news said that the tollgate needed to be refurbished to meet satisfactory standards of other ‘modern’ tollgates in some parts of the country. “Honestly if you take a look at the tollgate it resembles a boomgate, the country could be losing a lot of money as some motorists do not pay tollgate fees, it should be improved to the same standards of other toll gates in other highways in the country,” said a motorist who declined to be named. “That Roy tollgate honestly need some serious improvements, imagine that we pay the fees everyday…… how come it’s not improved, I think it should be overhauled completely to our satisfaction since we are paying a lot of money in toll gate fees,” another frequent Masvingo-Mutare motorist lamented. The toll gate located 40 kilometers along from Masvingo is not computerized and resembles a boom gate.Workers from Zimbabwe National Roads Administration use manual means to collect toll gate fees.
