Police detectives from CID Masvingo on Tuesday arrested 4 men suspected to be notorious and damn superstitious armed robbers who have been wreaking havoc in Masvingo province and across the country.
Apparent investigations by police detectives have managed to establish that the four: Jacob Enjoyment Danda Gunners, Michael Moyo (Joseph Ushe), Tinashe Marufu Mukanya Kedha and Regis Tammy Lloyd Prince Ncube Alayas Ginimbi have been operating in Masvingo CBD since 23 January this year.
Masvingo police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the arrests.
“On 25 February 2024 at dawn, four accused persons Jacob Enjoyment Gunners Danda (36), Michael Moyo Joseph Ushe (27), Tinashe Marufu Mukanya Kedha (23), and Regis Tammy Lloyd Prince Ncube Alayas Ginimbi (37), went to Zimre Park in Masvingo where they committed a robbery case at a residential place. Soon after committing the crime, two of the accused persons, Danda and Moyo, boarded a private vehicle travelling towards Bulawayo while the other two, Kedha and Ginimbi went to Zaka. The driver of the private vehicle with Danda and Moyo aboard suspected the two to be criminals and informed the police. Soon after the driver`s arrival at the Mashava Mhandamabwe Tollgate, the police apprehended the two accused persons. The duo, who were now assisting the police with investigations, led the police to Zaka where the other two, Kedha and Ginimbi were arrested.
“After interrogations the four accounted for 19 armed robbery and 2 unlawful entry cases in Masvingo. These cases were happening in Zimre Park, Clovelly and Rhodene low density suburbs as well as Victoria Ranch high density suburb in Masvingo. We also discovered that these four committed other similar criminal cases in Gweru, Kwekwe, Bulawayo, Zvishavane, Kadoma and Chegutu,” Inspector Dhewa said.
Police detectives have since recovered the machetes, catapults, knives, screw drivers, face masks, sharp objects and a 100 ml bottle with a black liquid concoction that the suspects claim to have been using as a charm to maneuver with dexterity and docility on their prey. While Kedha and Enjoyment Danda are new recruits, the other 2 suspects are not first time offenders as they are said to be former inmates having been once at Kadoma prisons together a couple of years ago. Regis Ginimbi is said to have been on the police wanted list after having bolted from Gweru police custody sometime last year.
By the time of publication, police had recovered stolen property worth US$15 000. This includes laptops, satchels, cellphones, jackets, trousers and shorts among others. Property worth US$4 000 remained outstanding. Meanwhile the Zimbabwe Republic Police has applauded members of the public and urged them to maintain the existing co-operation that they have with the police by supplying positive information. The police has further implored people, particularly those who were once robbed, to come and check for their valuables at Masvingo Central Police Station.
