ZRP Masvingo today confirmed arresting Wellington Moyo (22) in connection with a shocking case of attempted murder. According to the press statement released today, the incident took place on 10 November in the evening this month. Kumbirai Chirodzero, (52) of house number 202/2 Section 3, Temeraire, Mashava was in his house when he overheard Moyo and his friends making noise outside, reportedly mentioning his name with his friends outside the house.
While he was trying to listen and understand Moyo stormed into the house and armed with a small axe. Without provocation, Moyo is said to have grabbed Chirodzero by the collar and struck him once on the middle of the head. Chirodzero collapsed to the floor, sustaining a deep cut on his head.
Chirodzero was rushed to Masvingo Provincial Hospital where he received medical attention and is now reported to be in a stable condition.
Following the attack, Moyo fled the scene. However, diligent investigations by law enforcement led to his arrest on November 12 at midnight. Detectives received a tip-off from members of the public, revealing that Moyo was sleeping at his residence.
ZRP Masvingo expressed gratitude to the community for their assistance in the case.
“We commend members of the public for providing crucial information that led to the swift arrest of the suspect,” said the acting Masvingo police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Masauso Patinyu.
The accused is currently in custody and is expected to appear in court soon, facing charges of attempted murder. Police have urged residents to remain vigilant and continue cooperating with law enforcement in the fight against crime. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
