Some women in Victoria Ranch suburb in Masvingo have formed a 14 member group, Musha Mukadzi which embarks on collecting plastic and cans which they recycle into usable goods such as pots.

Musha Mukadzi Chairperson Nyerevo Mudongi said making items out of disposed materials has become a profitable business that has enabled her to fend for her family.

The project has made a huge and positive impact in my life and that of many other women in Victoria Ranch by providing them with a sustainable income,”said Mrs Mudongi.

Other people may view plastics as rubbish, as trash, but to me when I see it I just see pure art,she said.

Mrs Mudongi said lack of space to operate and financial assistance was some of the challenges they are facing as Musha Mukadzi.

‘We need a new space to operate to expand our business,as of now we are operating one of the members house,”she added.

One of the group members Agnes Mapope said they needed someone to advertise their project.

We are growing as a group which started operating from May 2021 we need more market for our products “Mapope said

Recycling of waste at the household level is seen as a sustainable way of providing more economic and environmental benefits to local communities.
