Masvingo Province is set to record significant economic growth, with agriculture expected to play a central role in driving development, Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Ezra Chadzamira, has said.
Speaking on the province’s economic outlook, Minister Chadzamira said Masvingo’s strong agricultural base presents vast opportunities for growth and investment, particularly in the livestock sector.
“Masvingo Province is well positioned to grow its economy through agriculture,” said Chadzamira. “We have over one million cattle, which is more than most provinces, giving us a competitive advantage in livestock production.”
The Minister noted that the province currently has 205 registered business units, a development he said reflects increasing investor confidence. He added that ongoing and new projects valued at approximately US$114 million are being implemented across the province and are expected to create significant employment opportunities.
Chadzamira said government is prioritising the refurbishment of Grain Marketing Board (GMB) silos across the province in line with the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2), as part of efforts to strengthen food security and improve grain storage infrastructure.
He further said the province will continue rolling out and supporting smallholder irrigation schemes to enhance agricultural productivity and promote sustainable economic growth.
“These initiatives will not only boost food production but also create jobs and improve livelihoods for communities across the province,” he said.
The Minister emphasised that agriculture remains a key pillar of Masvingo’s development agenda and will continue to receive support through infrastructure development, investment promotion, and policy implementation aligned with national development goals.
