The Consumer Council of Zimbabwe has welcomed the decision by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) to increase the bank withdrawal limits per week to $5 000.
Consumer Council of Zimbabwe regional manager for Masvingo province, Ndumiso Mgutshini told Hevoi FM News that the apex bank should however bring back the $US$50 facility to cater for all consumers.
“We would like to applaud the RBZ for increasing the bank withdrawal limit from $2000 to $5000 a week.As you are aware, our economy has dollarized, and that means consumers will be able to withdraw the amount and exchange it to US dollars and pay for necessities,”said Mgutshini.
He added:
“We would however appeal to RBZ to bring back the weekly $US50 withdrawal as it was assist consumers.”
Yesterday, the RBZ raised the limit on mobile banking transactions from person to person from ZW$5 000 to ZW$10 000 per transaction and from ZW$35 000 per week to ZW$70 000 per week.The central bank also resolved to increase the cash withdrawal limit for the banking public from ZW$2 000 to ZW$5 000 per week.
