Government is worried over the levels of dams siltation in the country. Acting director in Agritex department, Stancilae Tapererwa, says there is a need to train agriculture extension officers to make awareness campaigns in communities to take measures to prevent siltation of rivers and dams. “The level of siltation of dams in the country is very worrying and it’s high time measures are taken,”he said. “We are going to mobilize agriculture extension officers to train communities on the need to preserve our rivers and dams.Villagers must be taught that it’s illegal to practice stream bank cultivation which is very rampant in communities,”he said.
