Deputy Chief Secretary, office of the President and Cabinet, Mr Willard Manungo has raised concern over corruption in public entities.
Last week, Procurement Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe held a two day Public and Corporate Governance in Masvingo focused on the pivotal role of effective governance and procurement in fostering economic growth and development in Zimbabwe.
Mr Manungo said the Procurement and Corporate Governance landscape is often fraught with challenges, ranging from inefficiencies, absence of transparency and at times outright corruption.
‘Procurement should be an efficient mechanism and utilization of scarce tax resources and results should be rooted in cost effective delivery mechanisms. Procurement processes have been corrupt.
‘All these negative effects, in turn, compromise and impact on productivity, delivery of services and goods and ultimately overall economic growth and development’
Mr Manungo said as government they have come up with regulatory frameworks strive to serve as the foundation that underpins trust and fostering successful implementation of NDS1 intervations
‘Effective governance allows us to allocate resources wisely, mitigate risks and create an environment where businesses thrive. It empowers us to ensure that public funds are used efficiently and that corporate entities operate with integrity’
‘Governance is therefore not complete if services are not supplied accordingly and confidence instilled over future engagements, said Manungo.
