Tragedy struck in Mwenezi under Chief Neshuro when two juveniles, Welcome Sihuna (12) and another were electrocuted while herding cattle in a certain grazing land around the area Neshuro township during the weekend. The two are said to have come across an 11kv ZESA power naked cable that had fallen to a level of 2.4m from the ground.
They began to meddle with the cable. They were subsequently electrocuted in the process and thrown on the ground. Welcome Sihuma collapsed and died on the spot as his body got burnt all over. His friend, whose name cannot be revealed due to ethical considerations, was rushed to Neshuro District Hospital for medical treatment.
“As the Zimbabwe Republic Police we keep on urging members of the public to avoid tampering with the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) cables as these can be extremely dangerous” said Masvingo Police spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa.
Inspector Dhewa also emphasised on the importance of being cautious when dealing with electrical equipment so as to curb such tragedy from happening in future
