Police in Masvingo are calling on residents to form neighbourhood watch committees following an increase in incidences of crime in the city.
Police provincial spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa told Hevoi FM News that it is also the duty of citizens to prevent crime in Masvingo.
“We would like to appeal to residents of Masvingo to play their part in combating crime in the city by forming neighbourhood watch committees in their respective residential areas.It is not the duty of police alone to tackle crime….residents can also play their part. Remember recently we recovered valuable property worth thousands of dollars in Victoria Ranch suburb and apprehended suspects. As police we will also play a part in reducing crime but we also need support from members of the public,”said Inspector Dhewa.
There has been an increase of crime cases particularly in Victoria Ranch suburb and in other residential areas of Masvingo.Residents of Victoria Ranch suburb are calling on police to either increase patrols or establish a police station in the area to combat crime.
