A survey done by Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe(ARTUZ) has revealed that some female students in rural schools in the country are being stigmatized by teachers.
ARTUZ provincial secretary for gender, Shiela Chisirimunhu told Hevoi FM news that they are investigating a case where a pregnant female student is being traumatized by teachers at Chibi High School.
“It is not a crime for female students to fall pregnant….a lot of victimization is being done on them in rural schools.A survey done shows that a number of students fell pregnant during the lockdown,”she said.
She added:
“We are also investigating a case where a student who is supposed to write public examinations at Chibi High School is being stigmatized by teachers and as an association, we are going there to carry out investigations.”
Government recently saw that students who fell pregnant must be allowed to pursue their studies in schools.
