Stakeholders  urged to  stop extinction of Mopani tree in Chiredzi district . BY REGIS CHINGAWO

Enviropress secretary, Upenyu Chaota said its high time stakeholders such as Forestry Commission, law enforcement agents and the Environmental Management Agency join hands together in curbing the rampant cutting down of Mopani tree in Chief Neromwe  area in Chiredzi district.
Chaota told Hevoi FM News that the Mopani tree is now facing extinction.
“We have noted with  concern that there are some wood poachers who come from as far as Harare who are descending in Chief Neromwe’s area, cutting down the Mopani tree for use as charcoal.These wood poachers then sell the charcoal  which is in high demand,”said Chaota.
“We are therefore calling on stakeholders such as Forestry Commission, EMA and the ZRP to take action.We as EnviroPress we will be taking our part in educating citizens on the need to preserve our environement,”he said.
Recently, Chief Neromwe expressed concern over the rampant cutting down of the Mopani tree.
