The Ministry of Youth, Empowerment, Development, and Vocational Training says vocational training is key for youths in the province. As of the 2025-2026 intake, over 500 students have already enrolled in different vocational training centers, taking advantage of the skills training programs.
Masvingo Deputy Director, June Mbizvo, emphasised that the Ministry is committed to empowering youths through vocational skills. “Vocational training is key to equipping our youths with practical skills that can help them become self-reliant and contribute to the country’s economic growth,” Mbizvo said.
In addition to skills development, Mbizvo highlighted that another critical mandate of the Ministry is to combat drug and substance abuse among youths. “By engaging in vocational training, young people can develop a sense of purpose and direction, reducing the likelihood of falling prey to drug and substance abuse,” he added.
Masvingo has got several vocational training centers: Mushagashe, Masvingo Urban, Chivi-Mhandamabwe, and Gutu, as well as the private Paramount Vocational Training Center among others. These centers offer a range of programs in areas such as agriculture, construction, and manufacturing thereby providing students with hands-on training and skills that can be applied in the workplace.
Mbizvo explained that the Ministry’s efforts aim to address youth unemployment and promote economic development in the province. “By acquiring vocational skills, young people can start their own businesses, contributing to the growth and development of their communities,” he said.
With the right skills and training, Masvingo’s youths can unlock their potential and build a brighter future for themselves and their communities.
