The COVID 19 provincial task force in Masvingo province has expressed concern over villagers in rural areas who are gathering drinking traditional beer.
COVID 19 provincial taskforce spokesperson, Rodgers Irimayi told Hevoi FM News, that there is a need for massive awareness campaign to educate villagers in rural areas on the dangers of having gatherings in this period of fighting the COVID 19 pandemic.
“From our findings, we have discovered that most of the villagers in Masvingo province’s rural areas are gathering kumaNdari jamborees, drinking traditional seven days beer. This is a cause for concern as information we have is showing that the COVID 19 pandemic has reached the rural areas,”said Irimayi.
There is a need for a campaign in rural areas of the province to educate citizens on the pandemic,”added Irimayi.
Irimayi said the Taskforce also noted that villagers in the province are gathering in huge numbers at burial ceremonies.
“We are also urging villagers to adhere to the stipulated number when having some burial ceremonies. We have noticed that some villagers are attending to burial ceremonies way above the stipulated number which is 30 people. We are calling on the villagers to take heed of the Lockdown regulations. We are also receiving reports that sporting activities such as soccer has resumed in most rural areas in the province, this must stop if we are to conquer this pandemic,”he said.
