Bikita villagers in Masvingo province say they are in need of food aid as their crops were severely affected by the dry spell. Bikita South House of Assembly member, Josaya Sithole told Hevoi FM News that most of the areas in this constituency will need food aid.
“We had a very promising farming season at the beginning but now farmers have lost hope as their maize crop was affected by moisture stress. They will need some food aid,”said Sithole.
He added:
“Inorder to have enough food at household level, we are encouraging villagers leaving near water sources to embark on market gardening.”
A survey has revealed that most households in rural areas will require food aid as the maize crop is now a write off following a prolonged dry spell.
