BY SAMUEL NJINGA IN MASVINGO
Popular “Nyika ino ichatongwa naJehovah,” debut release, Lucky Chikuwa is back from the studios with a new song titled: “Nyika Mukadzi”
Born in Buhera under Headman Chikuwa on the 10th of February in 1968, Chikuwa dubs his music: “Jeketera music.” Defining the origins of his music vibes, Chikuwa says his immediate rural background influenced him a lot. Speaking after submitting his new release yesterday at Hevoi FM Radio Station in Masvingo, Chikuwa displayed the highest magnitude of flexibility and dexterity in his dancing skills before this reporter in a bid to convince music revelers and other social media platform followers that he is back with a jam and bang.
“I grew up being a very short somebody in an environment whereby our elders would sing and dance to Ngororombe that is also known as Jaka back home there in Buhera. As young ones, we would sing and dance to what was regarded as Tsavatsava music and dancing styles,” explained Chikuwa as he kept on demonstrating both the two dancing styles.
Chikuwa believes that his success story is vested in dreams, “You see, prior to being a musician, I was a superstar soccer player back then. Believe me, I began to get revelations through dreams from birth. I am an innate dreamer. I remember how I would be told in dreams concerning the songs to be sung by our cheering spectators who would be backing us during our ball game competitions. Each time that they sang a song that I would have told them to sing we were guaranteed of sailing through. With time these dreams kept on haunting me even off the pitch. This time it came so heavy on me in a dream that I was supposed to combine the two in order to get into the studio in order to come up with “Jeketera music.”
Chikuwa says from there onwards he never gave up. He never looked back. Other songs that the music maestro has released include: Kusaziva kufa, Musatisiya Toga, Ushe Madzoro and Zvanyanya.
