Fall armyworm invades Mwenezi district. BY SAMUEL NJINGA

Farmers in Chief Maranda in Mwenezi are worried following the continuous devastation of their maize crops by the Fall Army worm. Scores of farmers who spoke to Hevoi FM News appealed to government and stakeholders for intervention.
“We are having serious challenges as far as this pest is concerned. We have been trying our level best to get rid of it but the unfortunate thing is that the pest gives multiple births. It hatches a lot,” said Tongai Simangaliso who is one of the farmers.
“We have tried to combine forces in getting rid of this pest but we are failing. We are therefore appealing for government and other stakeholders to help us push this pest out of our fields otherwise we won`t get any harvest,” said one farmer who chose to identify himself as Moyo.
Government through the Presidential inputs scheme is making efforts to make sure that farmers get a better yield. A survey done by Hevoi FM News has revealed that the Fall Army Worm is causing havoc in most parts of Masvingo province and if it is not dealt with government efforts in uplifting farmers might be jeopardised.
