The Forestry Commission in Masvingo Province has warned that it will descend heavily on citizens who destroy the natural environment. The parastatal’s provincial head, Edwin Machokoto told Hevoi FM News that they will be working with stakeholders such as the Environmental Management Agency, law enforcement agencies and traditional leaders to ensure that citizens preserve the natural environment. “This year we are now intensifying our operations and anyone who will be caught on the wrong side of the law will face repercussions.We want people in Masvingo province to preserve the environment,”said Machokoto. Machokoto said this year, the Forestry Commission will be embarking in plantation of trees and also preserve the natural resources. “In Masvingo province this year, we will continue with tree planting programmes and also embark on awareness campaigns in issues such as bee keeping projects,”said Machokoto. Last year in Zaka and Chiredzi districts, the Forestry Commission had a blitz against wood cutters who were selling charcoal .
