MASVINGO- Hip hop guru, Jungle Loco whose new album Bata mastreets is topping the charts is this Saturday (October 31, 2020) headlining Spotlight Saturdays set to be launched at the Charles Austin Theatre.
Charles Austin Theatre Artistic Director Khetani Michael Banda told The Mirror in an interview that spotlight Saturdays are meant to give exposure to artists in Masvingo who have been in the music industry for a long time.
Banda said Spotlight Saturdays will focus on one artist per session who will be supported by Afro Facts band. The sessions have a question and answer segment and will be broadcasted live.
“Spotlight Saturdays are meant to give exposure to our local artists who have not been receiving due credit. The artists will be supported by Afro Facts band and the audience will be able to engage the artist through a question and answer segment.
“Many upcoming artists in Harare got the spotlight from various online performances and we should do the same for our artists. The sessions are to be held every Saturday and we will be broadcasting them live,” said Banda.
Jungle Loco whose album has been rated as one of the best albums of 2020 will be supported by Ngoni Chinovava aka Ba Raah who will be headline the second session and John Beats.
“Each session will have a supporting act who will headline the next session and our second session will be headlined by Ba Raah. We want to afford our audience the chance to appreciate all artists in Masvingo,” added Banda.
Masvingo has several artists whose musical projects have received national acclamation but have failed to receive national airplay
