Lawmakers say the country should take a multi-sectoral approach to end child marriages. STAFF REPORTER

Lawmakers want the county to take a multi-sectoral approach to end child marriages that continue to rob young girls of a chance to reach their full potential. Speaking after a question and answer session in parliament, ZANU PF legislator Pupurai Togarepi said there is urgent need to raise awareness among religious and traditional leaders who have been complacent about the social problem.
According to the United Nation, 12 million girls are married off before the age of 18 globally. In many cultures, marrying a young girl is considered a privilege, however, the problem has led to young girls in developing countries not going beyond primary and secondary education.
