Masvingo residents are calling for authorities to avail more ZUPCO kombis as they are being forced to board illegal taxis from Mucheke and Victoria Ranch suburbs to get into town which then drop them before Chimusana bridge.
Currently government has stipulated that only ZUPCO buses and kombis are allowed to carry passengers into or from the city.
Residents told Hevoi FM News that government must allow more ZUPCO buses as they are facing transport shortages.
“We are facing transport problems as ZUPCO transport is few.We are spending many hours waiting for transport to get into or out of town….something must be done,”said Tawanda Nyakure, a resident of Runyararo West suburb.
Other residents told Hevoi FM News that they are now resorting to board illegal taxis to near Chimusana bridge and then walk to and from town.
“We are now forced to use illegal taxis to Chimusana bridge and then walk on foot into town. ZUPCO is failing to cope with the demand.Government must just allow other players to operate or increase the fleet of ZUPCO transport,”said another resident.
Meanwhile residents of Victoria Ranch are appealing for ZUPCO buses to ply their area. Some Zupco operators have since shunned to operate in the suburb due to bad state of roads.
