At least 120 teachers in the country have died from COVID 19 pandemic, Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe president, Takavafira Zhou told Hevoi FM News.
“From the data we have compiled as PTUZ we have discovered that at least 120 teachers have succumbed from the COVID 19 pandemic, “says Zhou.
He added:
“The figure can be much higher, considering the fact that some families of teachers, who would have died from COVID 19, are not willing to divulge the cause of death.”
Zhou says an average of three teachers are now dying every week from the pandemic in each of the country’s provinces.
“From our analysis, we have also found out that an average of three teachers are dying from the pandemic in each of the country’s provinces on a weekly basis. It therefore means we are in a crisis and we hope that government will reopen schools in September when we will experience higher temperatures,” said Zhou.
Zimbabwe has so far recorded 31 73 deaths, 99 944 cumulative cases and 67 827 recoveries.
