The Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) has hailed the government’s decision to delay opening up of schools saying this will go a long way in ensuring a conducive atmosphere to fight the COVID 19 pandemic. PTUZ president, Takavafira Zhou told Hevoi FM News that : “We would like to applaud government for delaying opening up of schools because students who have crammed in schools considering that some students are still writing examinations. We would however like to urge the government to negotiate with school authorities and parents to take measures to ensure that students found to be positive are separated from those who have not been affected by the pandemic. We also urge the government to ensure that there is adequate water in schools to mitigate against the spread of the pandemic.” Government has delayed the reopening of schools as a measure of preventing the spread of the pandemic following a record of high positive cases in the last three weeks.
