Residents of Bere Township in Mashava say they are now living in fear following an increase in the spate of house breaking cases. Last Wednesday night suspected armed robbers broke into at least five households in the township getting away with valuable property.
“We are now living in fear following the incidences of housebreaking,”said a resident.
“We are seeing some suspicious looking strangers in our area during the afternoon and some of them we believe will be armed. We think these people will be surveying their targets and then pounce during the night,”said Jainos Moyo, a resident.
Other residents said they believe that the robbers use juju.
“Its very strange that of all the cases of housebreaking that were done on Wednesday night, occupants of the houses were fast asleep and never heard any strange sounds ,”said another resident.
Police in Masvingo have in the past urged residents to form neighbourhood watch committees to curb crime incidences.
