The cabinet has announced that schools will reopen on Monday next week for examination classes and the rest on 6 September. Information Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said intercity and intracity travel will be allowed to facilitate the movement of students to schools.
“Noting with satisfaction the preparations for the resumption of classes in schools, Cabinet is advising that schools will re-open on 30 August 2021 for examination classes, and on 6 September 2021 for non-examination classes,”said Mutsvangwa.
“As such, the inter-city and intra-city transportation for learners will be allowed during school re-opening periods, subject to close monitoring by law enforcement agencies,”she added.
She also said restaurants will now be allowed fully vaccinated sit-in customers.
The move has however triggered an outcry from parents and teachers organizations who say the announcement was made on short notice.
