Parents in Masvingo have called on teachers to use appropriate force when disciplining students in schools.
The parents told Hevoi FM News that students must be ‘disciplined” if they are to remain focused on their school work.
“We are calling authorities to ensure that children in schools are disciplined with appropriate force in schools.Students are now not disciplined, they are doing whatever they want and do not respect teachers and elders, we think that appropriate disciplinary measures need to be taken,”said the parents.
Other parents called on government to formulate a disciplinary board in schools.
“Government must institute a disciplinary board in schools that deals in how to handle cases of students or pupils who are undisciplined rather than leaving that to individual teachers,”said other parents.
This comes after a video ciruculated on social media where a Harare teacher, Talent Chingwaru used excessive force assaulting a student. The teacher yesterday was handed a community service sentence. THE full bench of the Constitutional Court in 2019 confirmed a High Court ruling outlawing corporal punishment for juveniles.
