Villagers in Dare area in Chivi South are saying the grazing pastures for their cattle have depleted and are calling for remedial action to be taken.
The villagers told Hevoi FM News that grazing pastures have been replaced by some fields that have been opened for farming.
“Things are not well….. As we speak we don’t have adequate grazing pastures for our livestock. The surrounding pastures are now farming fields and our livestock now have no places to graze,”said a villager.
Villagers are calling for authorities to come to their rescue before their livestock perish.
“We are calling for authorities to assist us for instance the department Veterinary services or some non-governmental organizations before our livestock perish,”said another villager.
Meanwhile villagers in Chivi Central constituency have welcomed the Veterinary Department decision to allow their cattle to dip regularly, saying this will go a long way in controlling and preventing January disease.
“We are very grateful to the department of Veterinary Services to allow our cattle to dip twice in a space of a week as this curb January disease caused by ticks and lack of dipping. We are hoping that this assist in the fight against the tick borne disease,”said the villagers.
More than 10 000 cattle have succumbed from the disease since the onset of the disease this year in Masvingo province.
