Following the announcement that was done by Zimbabwe Schools Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) yesterday, Masvingo parents have shown mixed feelings over the writing of ZIMSEC examinations by pupils at both primary and secondary school level in the country.
Said a parent who identified himself as Willard Fenga :
“People should understand that we are in a war. When in a war, it is the law of the jungle that takes the lead. Everything has got no formula. Everything is haphazard. Similarly, why children should be denied to write examinations due to COVID 19 global pandemic? They should proceed to write their exams just like what was happening during the liberation struggle.”
In contrast some of the residents who spoke to Hevoi FM News felt that obliging pupils to write the examinations was tantamount to academic suicide.
“What is it that they are to write? It is like schools opened on Monday, the following morning on Tuesday you are already writing examinations. What is wrong with us?” said one of the villagers in the rural Gutu.
Teachers organisations have always advocated for the writing of ZIMSEC examinations sometime early next year given the prevailing scenario in the education sector.
