Women at Roy area enjoying brisk business through harugwa selling.TATENDA CHIKARA

Several vendors at Gutu turnoff, near Roy business centre who sell ‘Encosternum delegorguei Spinola’ affectionately known as Harugwa say they are surviving well from their sales as no much capital is needed to start the business.

Encosternum delegorguei Spinola is a family of true bugs which bear a resemblance to the stink bugs and is mainly found in the areas of Bikita, Nyuni mountain range and Pfupajena in Masvingo Province.

A vendor who spoke to Hevoi Fm news said that this was the easiest business she could do since harugwa were easy to prepare and sell.

“This is the easiest business I decided to do because harugwa is easy to prepare and sell, what you need is only a roasting pan and salt, no much capital is needed to start the business,” one vendor said.

Another vendor who also spoke to Hevoi Fm news on anonymity condition urged other women to get into the business than bemoan lack of source of income when Harugwa were still available.

She also said that harugwa minimized levels of blood sugars as they made them drink a lot of water.

“This harugwa business is good, I urge other women to get into the business because harugwa is still available, other women should not bemoan lack of source of income.

“Harugwa is a healthy food, for those with high blood levels it can help because the insect does not have fats and they can drink a lot of water,” she said.
