Masvingo residents have expressed mixed feelings over government directive to allow churches to re-open to congregants who would have been fully vaccinated.
Some residents told Hevoi FM News that the new measure will promote corruption as some congregates who are not willing to be vaccinated will buy and produce fake vaccination cards.
“While we welcome government’s move, I feel that this will not work. Our country has some reputation of corruption and it will not be a surprise if some people will begin to sell the vaccination cards,”said a Mucheke resident who declined to be named.
Other residents called on government to fully open up churches without any conditions.
“Government must just open up churches without any conditions. This measure of no vaccination card, no entry into churches will not work….who will monitor this exercise taking into cognizance that some of our so called church leaders rely on church tithes,”said another resident of Rujeko suburb.
However other residents welcomed government’s move.
“I fully welcome government’s move as it will push churches to spearhead the vaccination programme.Remember COVID 19 is real,”said Henry Chifamba, a resident of Sisk suburb.
Cabinet yesterday said that churches can now allow sit-in congregants under the following conditions: only congregants who have received two doses of the vaccine are allowed to attend, all Ministry of Health and Child Care and WHO protocols are adhered to, and all those found in breach will be arrested, including the leaders of the churches.
