Bikita Minerals marked Workers’ Day in a unique way yesterday, fostering unity and team spirit among its employees through a sports tournament. The event was a testament to the company’s commitment to its workforce’s well-being and morale.
Addressing workers, Mine Manager David Mwanza highlighted the company’s growth and progress. “As a company, we’ve made significant strides in expanding our workforce,” he said. “The company has increased the employee base since 2002 from 500 to 1 360 workers, with most of them being local youths and women. Notably, the number of female employees has grown remarkably from 5 to 180.”
“The employee is an important stakeholder and we value the contribution of each and every one. Hence, we came up with this sports tournament to bring our employees together and promote a healthy work-life balance.”
The notable increase in workforce and diversity underscores Bikita Minerals’ dedication to creating opportunities and empowering its employees. The company’s growth reflects its commitment to providing employment and contributing to the local economy.
Speaking on the sidelines of the commemorations, Zimbabwe Diamond and Allied Minerals Workers Union, Grievances Secretary Rodrick Tavarwisa said Workers Day was an important event for workers not only at Bikita Minerals but the rest of the world.
“We had a chance to interact and play games, which motivates workers and highlights their importance in the mine.”
The sports tournament served as a platform for employees to bond outside of work, promoting a sense of unity and teamwork.
The sporting activities included, soccer, netball, chess, darts, snooker, walkathon among other activities.
