The Masvingo Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) has issued a stern warning to residents regarding dog breeding in the area. SPCA inspector for Masvingo, John Chikomo, says residents are only allowed to keep a maximum of 2 to 3 dogs per household.

“We urge communities to take responsibility for their dogs and ensure they are properly cared for,” Chikomo said. “This includes providing adequate food, shelter, and veterinary care. We want to prevent stray dogs from roaming the streets, which can pose a risk to public health and safety.”

The SPCA is also emphasising on the importance of registering dogs and keeping them up-to-date on vaccinations.

To enforce these regulations, the SPCA will embark on door-to-door inspections to identify households that are not compliant. “We will be conducting inspections to ensure that residents are adhering to the regulations and taking care of their dogs responsibly,” Chikomo added.

Residents are encouraged to take heed of the SPCA’s warning and take steps to ensure their dogs are well-cared for and compliant with local regulations. By doing so, the community can work together to prevent stray dogs and promote animal welfare.
